Intensely dark...exquisitely intoxicating!

Have you ever read a book where you felt painfully tortured yet felt seduced? It's almost akin to inflicting self wounds by continuing to read this, yet, I was also incredibly seduced that if I stop, it's like cutting my own nose to spite my own face. It is so alluringly good I couldn't put this book down, I wouldn't! I just continued on to the wee hours, wanting...wanting to know more of the rules, the acquisition. And the more I know, the more repulsed I've become. Yet, again, I was under the spell this talented author's tale has spun, I was immensely impressed. Lured, beguiled by the hero, the enigmatic, Sinclair, devilishly handsome, dark and sinful. Dedicated to continue honoring a over a hundred year old tradition, the Acquisition is a crucible for the Southern nobility, and Sinclair Vinemont will do anything to become the next Sovereign.
The strong attraction between Sinclair and Stella is unerring, infallible, they are destined to fail fighting their sexual attraction, and when they did, it was intoxicating and searingly HOT! I couldn't help re-reading that scene, it was sweet rapture.
Lucius Vinemont, Sinclair's equally handsome brother, who is just as determined to be the next Sovereign, lusting for Stella, who's not adverse to enviegle his charm to win Stella--their "acquisition". Whatever happens between this two brothers, no doubt, it'll be a blood bath!
If you are looking for a dark erotic, intriguing and full of secrets tale, look no further...THIS IS IT! It is written well, it has all the elements a true captivating book should be. A must read, the impressive style of writing of the talented author, Celia Aaron, is something to behold and to look forward to reading the 2nd book, I could hardly wait!

Starting a review for Counsellor by Celia Aaron, I am finding myself overwhelmed with emotions and trying to write them down seems difficult. I think it's because the way I felt while I was reading the book deserves to be verbally broadcast. I can write all I want, but it will not feel the same as if I am discussing this book to a friend or my hubby ( as I did).
Let me begin with Sinclair Vinemont, he is the eldest son and is next in line to find a acquisition for the family. A tournament is held every ten years and three eldest members from each family will battle to become the Sovereign, that person will hold power for 10 years and lead the most powerful people in the south. Vinemont wants this title and is willing to do anything for it. Sinclair, is a brooding character which at first is very hard to like. His emotions are strongly defined but I could sense a weakness which could make winning this title difficult.
Stella Rousseau, is a beautiful artist who is standing by her accused father waiting for a ruling for his punishment. She catches the eye of one Vinemont and to her utter disgust he propositions her with a agreement, in order to keep her father out of prison she will have to give one year of her life to be his acquisition, to torment her body and soul. Stella will not go willingly, she will fight who she must to not break her spirit.
I physically want to scream right now!!! Their our so many characters to this story that make it a read that you do not want to put down. Sinclair has 2 brothers Lucius and Teddy and they are very important. I can't say much about Lucius, he is basically as dark as his older brother. Teddy is the one with the big heart and adds brightness to this family. The other characters you will either love them or hate them with such a passion.
Counsellor will at times drive you mad, with the love hate relationship between Sinclair and Stella. The sexual tension and the moments of passion will send shivers down your body. At one point in the story I found myself crying because during one of the trials, Aaron has it perfectly written where you will feel the torment of the punisher and the pain of Stella, it tore me apart. The abuse from this trail will leave Stella questioning how this tournament will proceed and could change her feelings for Sinclair, it also leads to a cliffhanger that will want you to go straight to book 2 Magnate.

Fascinating! Electric! Wicked! A MUST READ!

I am jumping for joy over here. I requested Counsellor from NG not having heard anything about it but finding the cover and blurb intriguing. Well intriguing isn't quite a good enough word. I LOVED this book. Fans of darker, erotic romance who enjoy the wickedly twisted minds of authors who push boundaries with excellent story telling will love this book.
Set in the heart of the deep South in the Louisiana bayou amongst the snakes, gators, and creepy crawlers lies another, special breed of monsters. A pretentious, elite governing body of families who abide by an old code set forth by their ancestors. In consideration of preserving the plot and answers given in the book I cannot go into detail. However, I will say the depth of depravity illustrated in this book proving the debauched nature of these governing bodies is fascinating.
Sinclair Vinemont, our hero - or rather our anti-hero, dutifully fulfills his role in the Acquisition trials. He secures an acquisition, our heroine Stella Rousseau, in a rather cunning, elicit fashion to prove his worth in the sick games of the ruling rich.
"He was a gorgeous villain, a predator dressed up as a man."
With an ominous tone shining in the brilliant writing of Celia Aaron, Sinclair Vinemont exquisitely seduces the reader right along with Stella into his world of fear-inducing darkness. He does this effortlessly because Celia Aaron so eloquently demonstrates the fascination with the beauty of danger in human nature. He strikes at the most opportune moments never relenting the power he wields. He's calculating, cold, and willing to risk his soul to the wicked out of some sense of loyalty and tradition.
But isn't there something about those cold bad boys, that when written well, always hold us with rapture? In Celia Aaron's case with this man that's definitely the case. I fell a little in love with Vinemont even with his plight still shrouded in mystery - a gray area so large because only small clues are dropped throughout the story.
And Stella, who's living in her own kind of darkness, tries desperately to save what's left in her life by falling prey to this cold monster in Vinemont. She becomes his slave, owned by the animal she sees through the ice clouding his eyes. Much to Sinclair's dismay, the fiery slave challenges him every step of the way while contrarily obeying him at the same time. Feeding his beast inside she clamors her way through barriers that cannot be demolished through such a precarious time as the Acquisition trials. His futile resistance makes that much more desirable. She's fiesty, loyal, and perfectly curious to hook readers further.
Told from the alternating first person points of view of Sinclair and Stella, Counsellor leads us through a journey of the depraved and the woman for whom makes the dark desires come true. As Stella is a means to an end in the games Sinclair is forced to play a inevitable romance blossoms. Their connection visceral. But with lies, manipulations, an arrogant brother who wants more from the slave, and a really big power trip in play the ultimate destruction of both characters is imminent.
I cannot recommend the story enough. Celia Aaron writes with a foreboding yet melodious quality that hooks you from the very first word to the very last. I couldn't put Counsellor down. And yes, worriers of the cliffhanger, there is one. But it's PERFECTLY executed. Aaron gives you something to hold onto yet she leaves you almost breathless wanting more of this twisted, fascinating story. The hook at the end opens up so many new questions for which I can't wait to know the answers.
