Somebody finally did it - this is great!

Whether you're a small-town Boy Scout Troop, a big-city symphony, or a World Cup team, you need this book. It's really "hands on." The checklists, forms, and other how-to's take a complicated procedure and make it a no-brainer. It explains the theories, but focuses on how to to get organized internally for sponsorship-seeking, how to pinpoint exactly what YOU need for YOUR specific organization or event - and exactly who to seek sponsorship from, and how. Even if you're a pro in this field, trust me, it'll put you on top of your game and save you tons of time. This is THE reference book that's going to stay on my desk from now on. The sample contracts alone are easily worth ten, twenty, fifty times the price of admission!

A must for any non-profit considering sponsorships.

I wish I had read this book years ago. Ms. Grey starts out with a simple truth that unfortunatley the majority of Development professional do not know, which is in seeking sponsorship dollars you are offering the company a product and not seeking a donation. She also stresses the need for each sponsorship proposal to be expressly designed for the individual company unlike the traditional "boiler plate corporate proposal". The non-profit needs to show the monetary value of what they are offering the company. Since reading Ms. Grey's book we have finally developed a real sponsorship program that is bringing in the funds that we need.

Fantastic resource

What most impresses me about this book is the relevant information provided right from the beginning. Within a matter of pages I found valuable tools to apply in my everyday activities, and that trend continued throughout. Now I keep the book at arms reach as a reference guide. If all sponsorship seekers were to embrace the principles outlined in the book, our efforts would become more successful, while instilling a higher level of professionalism in what we do.

PreSchool-Grade 1-At night, mice wearing numbers emerge one by one from the kitchen clock. Ready to play, they prepare for a rollicking party with birthday cake served on the good china, but they have to be wary of Max the cat. Predictably, the feline awakens, with readers becoming aware of this fact before the rodents do. It is not clear why, but they must return to the clock by midnight, because "Tomorrow can't begin/Till every hour is home/And every number's tucked in," thus providing an element of suspense to the tale. The rollicking refrain-"Boom Chicka Rock, Chicka Rock, Chicka Boom!"-will have children moving to the rhythm, but at times the rhymes seem forced. Unfortunately, too many details clutter the text-the mice refer to Max by name and also as Lion. The numerous references to dances are fun-the Electric Slide, the Bunny Hop, Tango, Fandango-but again, complicate the verses. Chitwood's patterned collage illustrations are set against neutral backgrounds. They have an appealing textural quality and successfully convey the movement and drama of the story. About the Author
John Archambault is a poet, a former journalist, a story-teller, a songwriter and a prolific author of children's books. Born in Pasadena, California, Mr. Archambault attended the University of California, Riverside, as well as Columbia Teachers College in New York City. He travels all over the country, speaking to children and teachers about the joys of reading, and has created six musical CD compilations with Youngheart Music. He has also written over a dozen books for children, often collaboarting with Bill Martin, Jr., as in the popular Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, for which he is best known. Mr. Archambault lives in Yorba Linda, California.

Suzanne Tanner Chitwood has had a passion for art ever since she was a little girl. A former elemenarty art teacher, she made her debut in children's books in 2002 with her picture book Wake Up, Big Barn!, which was praised for its unique torn-paper illustrations. Ms. Chitwood lives in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Dancing Mice at Midnight

This new children's book was an instant hit with my three-year-old nephew. A big black cat lies fast asleep as the numbers on the clock turn into little mice, out to find the birthday cake. One by one the numbers climb down and scurry around the sleeping cat. My nephew would look for the cat on every page, sometimes in plain view, sometimes only a hint of tail showing. Midnight strikes, the cat awakes, the mice scurry back to their places. The illustrations are artful and humorous, and I always like rhymes for young children. Good for teaching numbers too.

Please don't make me read it again!

Every time my kids ask me to read this book I cringe. Other reviewers have already summed up the issues: the clunky rhymes, the rhythms that don't scan properly, and so on. Aside from that, the "plot" (insofar as that word is applicable to a kids' book) makes no sense. You have these twelve mice trying to sneak past the cat in order to get to the food...but on one page the cat is sleeping, then you see his eyes peeking over the top of the table at the mice, then on the next page he's sleeping again. Several pages later, after the mice have jumped rope with his tail and smeared cake in his fur, they suddenly realize that he's awake and they flee. The whole thing just doesn't make any sense and drives me crazy.

Also, as another reviewer pointed out, the "jive" slang used by the mice in this book is basically gibberish to kids (mine are ages 3 and 6). They don't understand any of the metaphors and they aren't familiar with the various types of dances mentioned in the text, so pretty much all of it goes right over their heads.

Having said all that, though, my kids still like the book and choose it frequently. So I give it two stars because they like it, even though I can't stand it.

Story line is hard to follow.
I read it once to my class and gave the book away (to a child who might enjoy looking at the pictures).

Sidenote: Elementary students know few if any of the dances mentioned.

Good with gaps...

While I enjoyed the book and the lucid writing style, I kept feeling that there were some significant gaps in plot, character development and overall flow. For the most part though, M.C. Scott is a very adept author who introduces some unique perspectives on the burning of Rome during Nero's rein. Well worth a read.

Excellent book!

A great story! I loved this book! I would not recommend it for younger readers though as there are some graphic parts to the novel. I was impressed with the quality of this book also as I bought it used.

Overall this is a great historical/fictional novel. It incorporates a love story, mystery, action and so much more! I have bought the whole series and will update as I read them. I can't imagine that it will take long however, as this first book was indeed a page turner!

slow and boring

I was reading this book for a couple of days and just seemed to bog down in dialogue, then I checked the place on kindle and I saw that I was 25% in and not an action sequence in sight. To me if you get that far in it bodes ill for the rest of the book, fortunately I won't know as I don't intend to waste time reading any further nor will I read the other three books that I stupidly bought on the back of so called five star reviews.

Rousselot received his artistic training at the renowned School of Decorative Arts in Paris while at the same time immersing himself in the study of the classic military illustrators. His immense talent was equaled only by his innate modesty and intense commitment to his work. This level of dedication ultimately resulted in the marvelous watercolors and exacting narrative presented in this publication.

Aside from a now-rare work published in France costing many hundreds of dollars, Napoleon’s Army: 1790–1815 is the only complete collection of Rousselot’s life’s work on the period, here presented admirably yet affordably for the English-speaking public.

An unequaled study, but an odd choice of format

As noted in other reviews, Rousselot's illustrations and text are the foremost treatment of First Empire uniforms, bar none and by a considerable margin. His text is masterful in breadth and depth and his illustrations place him more in the company of Meissonier than with later, lesser uniform illustrators. Andrea Press seems to have been constrained to produce the entire collection for an accessible price. The plates are scaled far down and the colors don't seem to match the original. It's still an invaluable resource and the translation is surprisingly graceful, but there's very little of the pure guilty pleasure of looking at the plates that one gets from the standalones or even from the Elite Cavalry volume. I'd have preferred to have a series of books, each covering one or two of the chapters of the existing work, with larger and better-reproduced plates. Still, it's a huge step forward to have Rousselot's central work in (relatively) wide circulation again.

Lucien Rousselot is the Gold Standard for the French Army of Napoleon. This volumn is the collected works of his folio sized prints. The text is woven into the color drawings in a way that supports the figures and is more easily accesed than the separate sheets of explanations in the originals. The originals have a real color vitality from the ink used at that time. Later reprints lost this and some were quite attrocious.

The only down side to the book is that the page size is considerably smaller than the originals so the drawing are reduced in scale. This is not an insurmountable issue and to have all the plates, normally retailing at $10 each, for a fraction of the cost is well worth the reduction in size. If you only have room for one reference on French Napoleonic uniforms - this is it.

Not a book to keep

The publisher made all efforts to prevent this book from being sold plate by plate somewhere on Ebay. I am not sure if that was part of his publishing or licensing agreement, but the publisher have succeeded. First, the book is produced in a LANDSCAPE format. Second, the reproduction of colored drawings is abyssal. If you have never seen Rousselot's watercolors you would've thought that he was a mediocre painter. Let' me repeat this again: The reprodcution of Rousselot's watercolors is so bad, it must be intensional. The colors are distorted and cheap (poor approximation of originals)they are also overlapping and have no defined edge. Faces are blurry, smudged spots. This book gives you neither glorious illustrations nor acceptable book format . I can see how it could be useful to those who are looking into a reference source for their modeling hobbie, but for the book collectors this volume is a waste of time and money.
To become what it should have been in a first place, this books should be 1.5 times larger, have a normal,rectangular book format, have precise 1:1, high-quality color plates of the original drawings and not low resolution tiny prints.
If you are looking for an eye-candy with some useful info to boot , you should not consider this volume.
